Basic Ceiling Canopy
Basic Ceiling Canopy
SKU: PCY-020-042
The Basic Ceiling Canopy offers an affordable alternative to the standard round canopy that we use in most of our fixture designs. With a rolled edge and vintage-inspired look, this canopy is slightly wider than the blank version that is also available. This versatile component will lay the foundation for your design by covering the electrical box and protecting the wiring connection while also adding a decorative touch.
Use it to convert a plug-in light into a hardwired fixture or custom design a new pendant or sconce fixture. The canopy is offered in both unfinished metal and chrome. For our raw metal finishes, keep in mind that these are untreated and designed to have a natural, industrial look. So, if left in their raw state, there will be slight imperfections and color variations in the steel which will oxidize and tarnish over time similar to upcycled applications. However, this finish is perfect for anyone that wants to sand and paint the metal to the color of your choosing.
The basic ceiling canopy comes with a punched canopy, mounting plate, mounting screws, as well as wire connectors. The canopy is secured with two side screws, leaving a clean surface. Please note that while this canopy is punched, it does not include the canopy grip or any pendant hardware and wiring.
With all lighting projects and DIY fixture assembly, we always recommend consulting a licensed electrician.

Made pierced tin pendants for my kitchen. Was wondering how I was going to get a canopy to match. These were absolutely perfect! Order arrived quickly, and in good condition.

We are so happy the canopy worked out great for you! - Tom R.Verified BuyerRated 4 stars2 years agoNice heavy duty canopy, but not 'plug and play' if you use the separate metal cord grips. Check the brackets against your ceiling boxes for fit!
TL/DR; Nice quality canopy, heavy duty, but not 'plug and play' if you use the separate metal cord grips. Check the brackets against your ceiling boxes and make sure they fit. Also Color Cord customer service is great!
I bought the bare metal version, as well as the separate "canopy cord grip" sold by Color Cord. I primed and painted them to match my ceiling. Heavy duty metal, good quality, bare finish, no rust. Easy to prime and paint. These canopies do come with a plastic cord grip that fits in the center hole (which I didn't realize), which fits smaller diameter wire. In my case, I needed to buy the separately sold canopy cord grip (which is metal), because it is larger in size and can handle the larger diameter wire that my barn lights were wired with. I wanted a metal cord grip, and knew this ahead of time, so it was no issue.
Of my 12 cord grips, 2 were missing nuts and lock washers (which are an odd size and hard to find at the hardware store), but Color Cord sent them to me FedEx so that I had the parts I needed before my electrician came. That's pretty stellar customer service!
The first issue I ran into was that the hole in the center of the canopy is too small for the separate metal cord grips sold by Color Cord (it fits the smaller included plastic grip just fine though). The canopy had to be drilled out to 1/2" to fit the metal cord grip. I used a stepped-bit in my drill press to enlarge the hole, but be aware that this would have been difficult to do safely…
