General Questions

Where are you located?

Color Cord Company is located in Denver, CO. All of our custom products are made to order in the USA. We are housed in a closed warehouse and do not currently have a storefront for retail operations or sales representatives in other cities.

However, if you are a local customer, we can arrange a free pick-up for you with an advance order. Please contact us for details or to make an appointment. Pick-up orders may require additional production or warehouse lead time.

Do you have a catalog?

We do not offer a print catalog. We are constantly adding new products to our website, making any print catalog out of date. Our website is the best place to see our complete product offering. If you are interested in ordering color samples of our wire, you can order them here.

Where are your products made?

All of our hardwired and custom fixtures are handmade in our warehouse in Denver, Colorado. The majority of our other products and components are manufactured in China unless otherwise noted in the product description.

Do you sell wholesale or give trade discounts?

Absolutely! We have a Designer & Trade Program for architects, interior designers, and tradespeople, as well as wholesale pricing for retailers. Please contact us with a description of your business and the products you're interested in and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.

Does Color Cord Company offer design services?

We do not offer design services. However, if you have a lighting idea or inspiration image, we're happy to take a look to see if our custom and production team can make it come to life. Check out our Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest for lighting ideas using our products.

Do you offer free samples of your products?

We sell 4-inch samples of our 18g round color cord. You can also purchase one foot of any cord so you can see it in person before committing to a larger order. We do not provide complimentary samples of our parts. However, if you are a designer or lighting manufacturer, please contact us regarding your project needs.

Technical Questions

I need assistance wiring a DIY lighting project — can you help me?

For liability reasons, Color Cord Company personnel do not give recommendations on how to wire or what applications to use our products for your specific project. Actions such as hard-wiring a pendant set or making any type of light fixture from our products should be done at your own risk. Please consult a licensed electrician for all electrical and wiring inquiries.

Are your products UL/CSA listed or recognized?

You can find which products are UL Listed on the individual product pages. Most of our products are UL and cUL Listed, but there are a small handful of exceptions:

  • Our fabric covered wire is fully UL Listed including the fabric braiding as SVT-B and SJT-B flexible wire. The only exception is our twisted-pair 2-conductor wire, which is not UL recognized.
  • Our SPT/Flat type cloth covered wire uses UL Listed wire but is not listed with the fabric covering.
  • Our wire is rated for small appliances and is suitable for pendant light applications and can be independently approved by inspectors.

Please note our products are UL (ULus USA & cUL Canada) recognized and have not gone through CSA testing. Please consult a licensed electrician for your specific application. Feel free to contact us for more information.

How much weight will your pendant cords hold?

Our plug-in pendant cords are pull-force tested and rated at 2.5 kilograms (5.5 pounds). Any shade or light fitting must not exceed this weight.

Our cord is SVT cable tested by force applied perpendicular to the direction of cable-outlet. The cable is subjected to a tension force of 30N repeated 25 times (1 second each), and displacement must not exceed 2mm to be approved.

Our flush mounted fixtures can also safely hold a maximum of 5.5 pounds. If your application exceeds that weight, please contact us to discuss alternative strain reliefs and suspension cable systems.

For swag-type ceiling hook installations, the hook must be properly mounted to support the full weight. The pull force rating does not apply to how swag hooks are mounted to the ceiling.
Are your products compatible with a dimmer?

Yes, our fixtures are compatible with dimmer switches. You will want to make sure the bulb and the dimmer switch are compatible with each other. Our plug-ins do not have built-in dimmer toggles, but you can use a smart plug from an outside vendor to provide this functionality.

Shipping

When can I expect to receive my order?

Color Cord Company ships Monday through Friday. We strive to get orders picked and packed as quickly as possible. However, many of our light fixtures, canopies, whips, and custom items are made to order in Denver, CO and require 10–14 business days for production before shipping.

Production lead times are listed on each product page and are separate from the shipping speed selected at checkout. If you have questions about your order's status, please contact us.

Can I get my order expedited?

Yes — we offer two ways to speed up your order:

  • Rush production — moves your order ahead in our production queue, reducing the time it takes to build your fixture. Rush pricing varies by product and is shown during product customization. This does not affect shipping speed.
  • Expedited shipping — speeds up carrier transit time once your order ships. Available at checkout.

For the fastest possible delivery, you may need both. See our Shipping page for full details, or contact us if you have a specific deadline.

Do you accept international orders?

We currently ship to the United States, Canada, and Mexico. All international orders ship via UPS, FedEx, or USPS. International shipments are not eligible for free shipping and customers are responsible for all customs duties, taxes, brokerage fees, and import charges.

All of our products are designed for the North American 120V market. Please confirm electrical compatibility with your local standards before ordering.

Orders

Can I cancel my order?

It depends on where your order is in the production process:

  • Standard made-to-order items — cancellable any time before materials have been pulled for production. Once building has begun, cancellation is not possible.
  • Rush production orders — must be cancelled within 24 hours of placement and before production begins. After that window the order cannot be cancelled.
  • Ready-to-ship items (accessories, wire, bulbs) — cancellable within 1 hour of placement.
  • Custom orders, bulk orders of 10+, and cut-to-order cord — cannot be cancelled once confirmed or cut.
Contact us immediately at info@colorcord.com or 800-409-1070 to request a cancellation. Your order is only cancelled upon written confirmation from our team. View full cancellation policy →
What happens if I cancel a rush order?

Rush orders can be cancelled within 24 hours of placement, provided production has not yet begun. If cancelled in time, you will receive a full refund including the rush production fee.

After 24 hours, or once production has begun (whichever comes first), rush orders cannot be cancelled and the rush fee is non-refundable. This is because production begins immediately and the labor and queue priority cannot be reversed.

Can I return my order?

We accept returns on eligible products within 30 days of purchase. Items must be unused, unmodified, and in original packaging. A Return Authorization is required — please email info@colorcord.com before sending anything back.

The following items are final sale and not eligible for return:

  • DIY pendant light cord sold by the foot (cut-to-order)
  • Light bulbs
  • Custom-made fixtures, canopies, and whips
  • Bulk orders of 10 or more fixtures
  • Sale-priced and discontinued items
  • Limited-edition collections (Boutique, Artist Collaborations, Totally)

Rush production fees are non-refundable upon return. View full returns policy →

How do I change an existing order?

Please contact us as soon as possible if you need to modify an order. We cannot modify orders that have already shipped. For made-to-order items, changes may not be possible once production has begun and could incur additional costs. The sooner you reach out, the better chance we have of accommodating your request.

My item is incorrect, something is missing, or my item arrived damaged — what do I do?

We're sorry to hear that — let's make it right. Please email us within 7 days of delivery with your order number, a description of the issue, and photos of the damage or incorrect item and the original packaging.

All issues from a single order must be reported in a single claim within the 7-day window. After 7 days, we will still do our best to assist but cannot guarantee a full resolution.

Can I apply a discount code after I've already placed my order?

No — discount codes must be applied at the time of checkout. Once an order has been placed, shipped, or delivered, we are not able to retroactively apply promo codes or adjust the order total. If you have trouble using a code, please contact us before completing your purchase and we'll make sure you get the savings you're expecting.

Products

What is rush production and does it include faster shipping?

Rush production moves your order ahead in our production queue, reducing how long it takes for your fixture to be built before it ships. Our standard production lead time is 10–14 business days. Rush tiers are:

  • Level 1: 7–9 business days
  • Level 2: 4–6 business days
  • Level 3: 1–3 business days

Rush production does not include faster shipping. Shipping speed is a separate service selected at checkout. For the fastest possible delivery, you may need both rush production and expedited shipping.

Rush pricing varies by product and is shown during the product customization process. For Level 3 availability, please contact us before ordering.
I'm looking for a specific product that isn't on your website — can you help?

We would love to help! Please give us a call, connect with us on live chat, or send us an email and we will see how we can help.

Will your fixture work with my lampshade?

We sell sockets and parts intended for hanging pendants with a Euro-style shade. There are many different types of shades and fitters, so you will need to confirm your shade and our shade-ready socket are compatible. Outside vendors specialize in shade parts and can provide reducers and adapters if needed.

Shades do not have a universal size, so we cannot answer this question definitively without more details. Feel free to contact us with images and we'll do our best to help.

Do you have products that work outside?

Yes — we have a selection of outdoor-rated fixtures designed for exterior use. For all other products, please check the individual product page for location rating. When in doubt, contact us before ordering for an outdoor application.

Installation

How do I install a flush mount fixture to a junction box?

First, turn off power at the breaker. Attach the mounting plate and connect the wiring. Push the wires into the junction box and attach the canopy to the mounting plate with the canopy screws. Add your bulbs, restore power, and enjoy your new fixture.

How do I add swag to my fixture installation?

Hammer the anchor into your ceiling or wall until you reach the threaded portion. Use a screwdriver to twist the anchor the rest of the way until it's flush with the surface. Mount the backplate by inserting the screw into the anchor, then use an allen wrench to secure the hook to the backplate.
